The interview with Scott Krager was interesting, and he acknowledged some of the problems with the Nitro Pack, said they were working on a patch. If what the host of the show said is accurate, there will be some more of this interview broadcast next week. If you haven't heard it yet, click here. You will need the RealAudio plug-in to hear it.

It seems that some people STILL have not gotten thier pre-ordered Nitro Pack. This delay is causing some complaints against Activision. Hopefully all those pre-ordering folks will get the game soon, then there will be some more games on the Nitro servers.
Debacle's Map Museum from that famous map-making dude, now has a Nitro map section. A link to his site is now on the LINKS page.

Some more new maps for the Gold/Nitro over at Vigilantes Paradise .
From the posts I see on the message boards, it appears that those people who pre-ordered the Nitro Pack from Activision STILL have not recieved their orders. It has been on store shelves for awhile, so I sure can understand why people would be a little (or a lot) upset. Maybe it will ship THIS week?

An I'76 movie?!? That's the news up at Vigilantes Paradise . Seems that FOX has optioned the rights, and have a director and producer lined up. Someone on a message board had a good question; "Who will play Skeeter?". <g>
To any NEWBIES who happen to read this: Capture the Flag is a TEAM game. That means that other people in the game just might be on YOUR team! Hit CTRL-T when you enter a game, the names you see above a players car are colored, if you see one that is your color, CHECK YOUR FIRE!

INT Madhatter has put together The I'76 Gold/Nitro Editor Help in HTML format. Thanks goes out to him.
Speaking of maps, there have been some more released since yesterday, and it looks like we will soon have a flood of old and new maps for Gold/Nitro. When someone gets a nice collection together, I'll add a link.
Styles tells me he spotted a hack in a balloon when in a Nitro Pack game. Didn't take long, huh? Anybody ever consider that maybe the Big A has some flies in their ointment, these hacks seem to come out way too fast.

The new map editor was indeed released today. Click HERE to download it, about 200k. Debacle has already converted 2 maps for use with Gold/Nitro; The Long Jump and, Intercept and Pursuit. Many more conversions should be out soon, hopefully to include the AVA Elimination map.

Found out that the Tank and Helicopter are included in the Nitro Pack, you get them the same way as before, make a rattler and name the variants "knat" and "retpocileh". The sounds are changed though, so the copter sounds like a car. The copter also has four weapon slots and some new paint schemes, but it and the tank are still way too easy to kill. <g>
The new Map Editor is supposed to be out tomorrow, according to an e-mail Scott Krager sent out. He also said that Activision will be working to fix any bugs, so perhaps a patch will be out soon.

Found another trick to pull on the Capture the Flag map "Basin". It really makes the whole thing unfair though, so I don't know if it will be very useful.
There are some real idiots, morons, whatever, who will join a Capture the Flag game and just start shooting at anyone, including their own team-mates! And, of course, someone has figured out how to hack the Nitro, saw a pic of a two turreted Manta on a message board today. So much for hack prevention. :( There is no "invite only" with Nitro, so the only way to keep out hacks is to run a game requiring a password, which I can see as a problem, sort of limits the decent players from joining a game. At least you can still boot people!

When you play the scenario for Skeeter called "Mother", be sure to play it again, as Skeeter says something different the second time.
To beat the Taurus scenario "Velocity", use a Clydesdale with nitrous oxide, get ahead of the bus, turn around and ram that bus head on, at full speed! If you hit correctly, you can stop the bus.
When you finish all the regular scenarios, you get to play four more as the rather cool bad guy Natty Dread
Found an interesting trick you can use on the 2 player Capture the Flag map "Basin". It came as quite a suprise to the guy I pulled it on.
Standings on the AVA Combat Ladder: Styles is #19; Toecheese #44; and Bruiser is #47.

Added a Servers selection to the menu on the left, which will list the I'76 and Nitro servers. You can click on them to see what games are currently going.
It seems that you will not be able to use ANY of the user created maps with the Gold Edition or with Nitro. Quite frankly, I think this stinks, as a lot of effort, not to mention some good maps, just went out the window. Activision plans to release a new I'76 map maker for the new programs at some point, let's hope it is better, or at least easier to use, than the last one.
You cannot access the Capture the Flag maps in single player mode, or at least I haven't found a way yet. This means that to learn the CTF maps, you HAVE to play on-line. Also, STRATEGY is very important in the CTF game, as Only flag captures count. You can die a zillion times, but as long as you can capture and bring home the enemy flag more times, your team wins!

Styles and I (Prak) managed to get both the Nitro Pack and the Gold Edition to work, and played a short game with each. The only real problem I have is the lack of increased texture mapping RAM support for 3D cards with more than 4 megs of RAM, and no support for the Voodoo2 chipset. Since the Voodoo2 has been the "talk of the town", so to speak, for the last 3 or 4 months, the fact that they overlooked support for it seems odd, but I expect a patch for that in the future. Didn't much care for a couple of the new maps, but I didn't like some of the original ones either. Styles and I both found the .45 sound to be, uh, different, not an improvement. The bullet tracers are now a different color, pink?, still trying to get used to that. The Old and the Gold do not work together, but still use the same server, each showing the games of the applicable version. Nitro is played on the same servers as Heavy Gear® was: for the U.S.; california3.activision.com; california12.activision.com; and newjersey1.activision.com. For Europe; stockholm.alink.fragzone.se. For Australia: australia1.activision.com. And wouldn't you know it, on cali3 last night there was a "hax hax hax" game going. Sheesh!
Styles has redone his page in a fit of late night madness
Hosted a couple of Capture the Flag games this afternoon with Styles on california12, and woo hoo! was it fun. <g>

Here is an e-mail from the Activision people.
To all I'76 webmasters-- I wanted to clear up any confusion about the Interstate '76 Gold Edition Upgrade file. This is not a "patch" for the Arsenal. It's an upgrade file for your existing version of I'76, available free of charge from our website this week. Here are the details: I'76 GOLD EDITION UPGRADE FILE This is a file that UPGRADES YOUR EXISTING VERSION OF INTERSTATE '76 with all of the I'76 GOLD EDITION enhancements. These are the exact same I'76 Gold Edition enhancements that are included in the Interstate '76 Arsenal and the Interstate '76 Nitro Pack. YOU MUST HAVE THE ORIGINAL INTERSTATE '76 GAME TO USE THIS DOWNLOADABLE FILE. This file is quite large, as it contains a new project file that includes 16-bit art, new horizon maps and D3D support for all of the original I76 missions. Please refer to the "Gold Edition" page of our website for a complete listing of the enhancements that this file provides: http://www.activision.com/games/action/arsenal/index_gold.html If you don't own Interstate '76 or if you don't want to download this file, you can still get the Interstate '76 Gold Edition. The Gold Edition is also available at retail stores as part of the Interstate '76 Arsenal (available February 27), and from the Activision Online Store as part of the Interstate '76 Nitro Pack (available NOW): http://store.activision.com/ I hope this information is helpful. --Charlie Hill The I'76 Team
Some stores have already recieved the Arsenal/Nitro Pack, and some (like me!) will hopefully have it tomorrow.

Another totally fake news item. Kayro, Ejupt.Archeologists of the Wah Zup Museum today announced that while preparing the monument known as the Sphinx for a make-over, they have uncovered some mysterious ritual objects, buried for thousands of years. You can see a computer model of the site, done for us by our friends at The Smythestonian Museum. You will need a VRML plug-in, like the Cosmo Player 2.0, and then go HERE, and you too can climb the legs of the Sphinx, and gaze down upon these ancient relics.

The main server was lagging last night, so STP went in search of a faster server. After trying Okienet (in Oklahoma), we went to Toecheese's server, and had a whopping good time, with very little lag. Cool!

Ok, so no Arsenal/Nitro Pack today, and I have heard release dates of Wednesday February 25, Friday February 27, and "sometime in the next two weeks". The Friday release date looks most promising, as that is the date mentioned in an e-mail sent out by Activision, which you can read at The Vigilante Times.

Yesterday was another weird Saturday on the I76net server. It was "imposter" night, and our little !stp nhmcvsw game was joined by many notable names in the I'76 community, most who had mispelled their OWN NAMES!!! LOL! I really like the one who came in not realizing that some of us might actually know the person he was pretending to be. Gee, kids, if you are going to impersonate other players, at least do your homework first! <g>
Anomoly over at The Vigilante Times has left RCMP and is now with Wolfteam.

The Interstate '76 Community desperately needs the Arsenal/Nitro Pack, before it becomes even more of a soap opera than it already is. <g> -HF-Wingnut announced that he is leaving the I'76 world for good; Wolfteam declared war on Motor Madness Mercenaries (who?); **MARTIN** has had more name, gang, and attitude adjustments, I think today he is Revolver. You know things are quiet when stuff like this makes the news, huh?
02-19-98
Not much happening in the I'76 Community today, so here is a fake news item.
Amazing new discovery announced by scientists today! Astronomers using the little known H.I.B.B.L.E. orbiting telescope have found an unusual cluster of objects around the . Our connection with N.O.S.O. space officials gives us the first look at this never before seen wonder of the cosmos. In fact you will need a VRML plug-in for your browser, like the Cosmo Player 2.0 to view this computer model of the newly found objects. To quote astrophysicist I. C. Yew, of the Nonamè Institute, "We are astounded!"

The Vigilante Times has moved to a new address, still run by the same folks.
The people at my software store inform me that the Arsenal/Nitro Pack release date has been pushed back to February 23. Whether true or not, I won't have it till then. :(
02-16-98
Well, tomorrow is the big day, as the Arsenal/Nitro Pack is to be released. Now all those beta-testers can finally show off, what with all the practice they've been getting with the new cars and weapons. :)
Not much else going on in the I'76 community, unless you want to read about the big mess between The Texas Border Patrol and the RCMP, aka NBP. To sum it up, Sgt. Stadinko of TBP did something he shouldn't have, alot of harsh words went down, Stadinko apologized and resigned from TBP, and SO, life goes on. A quote from the 1970's, "Dig it!, if you can." seems to apply here. <g>

Toecheese and Prak hosted a !newbielessonsn/h game last night, and jointly decided never to hold another one on Saturday Night again! <g> The parade of hacks, losers, lamers, and loud-mouths was very saddening to see. In two hours of hosting, we might have had 3 decent people come in. We will still continue to host !newbie games, but on some other nights. :) 02-07-98 02-05-98 Our man Toecheese is scheduled for an AVA ladder duel today. The I'76 demo REQUIRES a 3D card to work, so if you don't have one yet, don't waste your time downloading that 31.8 meg file (like I did!).
Sorry about no news yesterday, but it seems that Crow.net wasn't taking any calls. Anyway, the demo is out! It is 31.8 megs big, you can download it at CNET's download site, or at CDROM's Download site, also at I76 download site.
It seems the Arsenal/Nitro Pack demo will be out tomorrow (02-06-98). This is the link to the Activision download page, maybe they will put it there first? Ya think?
